What is derouging?
Derouging is the removal of iron oxide deposits, commonly called rouge, from stainless steel systems used in high-purity or regulated processes. Rouge is a rust-like film that builds up on the surface over time. If it is left alone, it can flake off and contaminate your product or water. Derouging cleans the surface back to bare, sound steel.

When To Act
Signs your system may need derouging
!Reddish, orange, or dark staining on tanks, pipes, or reactor walls
!A rust-like film that wipes off onto a cloth or glove
!Discoloration in a water for injection (WFI) or clean steam loop after a shutdown
!Particles or color showing up in your product or rinse water

01We match the chemistry to the rouge
We assess the system condition first, then select the right chemistry and procedure for Class I, Class II, or more resistant rouge. We use pH-neutral chemistry where suitable, which is gentler on your equipment and safer for your team.
02We repassivate afterwards
After derouging, we recommend repassivation so the surface regains a stable, corrosion-resistant protective layer. Derouging removes the rouge; repassivation stops it from coming back quickly. We can do both in one project.
